Forestport, NY (WIBX) - The Superintendent of the Adirondack Central School District is singing the praises of his staff after an incident that had Forestport Elementary on lockdown.

Details are just now emerging about what appears to be a custody-related dispute that spilled into the school shortly before dismissal on Monday.

Reports that the mother was holding a gun were false. Hubman thinks that children confused the word "son" for "gun," and the story escalated from there.

The woman was eventually calmed down and led out of the building.

The incident took place on Monday, November 26, 2012 and the district has not publicized the matter in order to protect the child involved.  Hubman says the children and staff were never in harm's way.
