DiNapoli: Audit Shows $3,400 Improperly Diverted Between Two Snowmobile Clubs
Herkimer, NY (WIBX) - The Herkimer County Snowmobile Association's Treasurer is in hot water after redirecting state funds from one snowmobile club to his own.
According to an audit by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, Pat Deyle used his power as Treasurer and President of the Ilion Snowdrifters club to redirect the money.
Between 2008 and 2010, Deyle allegedly directed more than $3,400 from the Long Pond Snow Sled Club, to his own club in Ilion.
Jim Rolf, the Statewide Snowmobile Association Trails Coordinator, says the audit is a wake-up call.
"I think it's a very isolated incident," Rolf said. "It's sad to read and it's unfortunate, [but] they will take the right measures in the future to make sure it doesn't happen again. As sure as I've already been told, the parks will do the same thing. We don't want to have a black eye like this."
Several other local counties were also caught improperly charging fees, including Madison and Chenango counties.
