Projects supported by New York's Industrial Development Agencies created nearly 36,000 jobs in 2014, an 18 percent increase from the previous year.

That's according to a report issued by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.

“IDAs are an important catalyst for economic development in our state,” said DiNapoli. “But as the value of tax exemptions to private businesses continues to increase, taxpayers must be reassured that their community is receiving promised benefits.

The five IDA's with the largest job gains in 2014 included Oneida County, which produced 10,476 jobs.

In 2014, IDA projects reported a total of 645,010 full-time jobs.

This is DiNapoli's ninth annual report examining the performance of the state's IDA's.
