If you are a big baseball fan, than you knew that the 2012 MLB draft was held Monday.  If you are a casual fan, you probably didn’t and couldn’t care less.Unlike the NFL and NBA drafts, the MLB draft isn’t a big spectacle. In fact, a lot of the time you won’t even see your teams draft pick for a few years. Unless they are a major prospect out of college, most draft picks are thrown into the teams farm system until they are ready.

In some cases, a draft pick is in high school, but chooses to play college baseball before heading to the big leagues. This is probably one of the many reasons why most baseball fans just don’t care about the MLB draft.  A team could draft an 18-year-old with big potential, but you won’t see him play with your team until he’s 25.  That’s a long time to wait and see. Most fans don’t want to invest that kind of time.
