Oneida County Legislator James D'Onofrio is proposing county funding to assist in flood mitigation efforts.

D'Onofrio sent his request to County Executive Anthony Picente and Board Chairman Gerald Fiorini, asking that $ 250,000 be made available to the Sauquoit Creek Basin Commission.

The proposal would also address flood prevention from tributaries like Mud Creek and Palmer's Creek.

He say the goal of the funding is to increase the commission's capabilities to prevent future flooding issues.

D'Onofrio says the funds would be part of a comprehensive program that would involve matching contributions from federal and state government and local municipalities that lie along the Sauquoit Creek.

If approved at the committee level, the resolution will be sent to the full board.
