At least 30 vehicles including tractor trailers were involved in a pile up accident on the New York State Thruway. Dr. Rick Timbs was traveling westbound on I-90 when he came upon the accident that had already occurred. He didn't see what was coming next.

As he approached the Warners Travel Plaza he noticed a standstill. He pulled over to get out of the way when he was hit by a semi. Dr. Timbs says, "A whole bunch of people flew right by me right into that accident, then a whole bunch of cars piled into them and finally piled into me and drove me into the median against the guard rail."

When asked about driving conditions, Dr. Timbs told us there was some light snow, but you could drive in it. Dr. Timbs was not injured in the accident, but according to the NYS Thruway website, there were injuries. The website also provided this update as of 10:42 a.m. on Thursday morning,

I-90 eastbound at exit 40 (Weedsport) has re-opened. Westbound traffic is still being detoured at exit 39 (Syracuse - Fulton - I-690 - NY Route 690) due to a multi-vehicle accident. Please follow @ThruwayTraffic on Twitter for real-time updates.

Dr. Rick Timbs is the Head of the Statewide School Finance Consortium. You can see photos from the accident and of his vehicle below.
