ULSTER, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say they've charged an upstate New York man with manslaughter and DWI after his vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian who was crossing a Hudson Valley road.

Police in the town of Ulster say 50-year-old Raymond Williams, of Hurley, was crossing state Route 28 around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when he was hit by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at a hospital in nearby Kingston.

Police say they've charged 32-year-old Raymond Shultis, of Olivebridge, with vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated for having a blood alcohol content more than twice the state's legal limit of 0.08 percent.

Shultis was released from the Ulster County Jail after posting $25,000 bail. It couldn't immediately be determined if he has a lawyer.

The crash closed Route 28 for about six hours.
