Rome Police say a dropped cigarette has led to drug charges against a Rome man.

It happened during a traffic stop on Massock Avenue

Police say as a officer was talking to the driver of the car, 33-year old Robert Coffin dropped a cigarette he was smoking and it landed between the two front seats of the vehicle.

As Coffin opened the car door to retrieve the cigarette, the officer saw a clear plastic bag on the floor of the car that contained a white chunky substance.

A struggle ensued when Coffin tried to put the bag into his pocket and he was arrested.

Police say they found two other bags that allegedly contained crack cocaine, along with $1,000 in cash.

Coffin was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
