The drowning death of a man in Jefferson County is being investigated.

Black River resident Daurice Mapp dove into Sixberry Lake in the Town of Theresa and, friends say, immediately struggled to stay afloat after surfacing from the jump.  He went under water, not to surface again.

New York State Police in Alexandria Bay say the two friends who were with him were unable to pull Mapp to the shore.

The thirty-year-old drowned.  His body was recovered by the State Police Dive Team in 24-feet of water.

An autopsy is expected to determine the exact cause of death and determine if there were other circumstances that contributed to the drowning.

The investigation is continuing.
