BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A drunken driver who struck and injured four people celebrating New Year's Eve in Buffalo has been sentenced to 3 1/3 to 10 years in prison.

Abdikadir Jaffar of Utica was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty in September to aggravated vehicular assault. Investigators say his blood alcohol content was nearly three times the legal limit when the crash occurred about 1 a.m. Jan. 1.

Jaffar was driving through a Buffalo neighborhood when his car struck another, continued onto a curb, struck and broke a utility pole and then plowed into several pedestrians.

One of the pedestrians, a 15-year-old boy, lost his left leg above the knee. Another sustained a broken pelvis and two broken legs. A third pedestrian and a passenger in the car he struck sustained concussions.
