ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Early bow hunting seasons for deer start next week across New York state.

Bow season begins in the Northern Zone at sunrise next Tuesday and runs through Oct. 21. The season opens in the Southern Zone on Saturday, Oct. 1, and ends Nov. 18.

State environmental officials say they expect bow hunters to see more deer this year.

Bow hunters can help the state track deer and other wildlife populations by emailing the Department of Environmental Conservation to participate in its Bowhunter Sighting Log. The agency is seeking more participants in northern, eastern and southeastern counties as well as in Suffolk and Westchester counties.
