Edward Snowden, the man who leaked National Security Agency documents to the media could be headed to Venezuela.

Last week Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro offered asylum to Snowden and on Monday Snowden reportedly followed up by sending the Venezuelan leader a formal asylum request.

It is unclear whether Snowden will go to Venezuela or how he will get there from his current location in Moscow.

According to CNN, news that Snowden was accepting asylum in Venezuela was Tweeted by a Russian lawmaker, who later deleted the post. Reports of Snowden heading to Venezuela remain unconfirmed.

The United States has made it clear to the international community that it would like Snowden back in the U.S. to face punishment.

Snowden has been in international limbo since revealing the U.S. government's surveillance program and fleeing the country more than two weeks ago.
