Utica Police staged a full-scale emergency preparedness drill on the Utica College Campus on Wednesday.

The exercise was designed to evaluate response procedures in the event of an actual active shooter scenario.

Utica College President Laura Casamento says as we know, colleges and universities are not immune to acts of violence, so the more prepared they can be, the better.

Casamento say the drill is part of Utica College's larger emergency training initiative, coordinated by a team of administrators, faculty and staff.

UC has worked with Epicenter Media and Training of Rochester since 2016 to re-evaluate the college’s emergency management procedures and design a comprehensive response strategy.

UPD Chief Mark Williams says about 20 officers and nearly a dozen EMS and fire department personnel took part in the training exercise.
