The widely lauded program in the City of Binghamton to end veteran homelessness takes another step forward.

The City’s Homeless Veteran Housing Project, featuring 10 housing units for vets officially opens on Pine Street.

In 2014, Binghamton was recognized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as the first U.S. city to successfully meet a White House Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness.

Through formation of a Blue Ribbon Commission of local experts and support services, the city had identified 21 veterans and created housing plans for each.

The group continues to monitor the number of homeless vets in the area.
