The Erie Canal Bicentennial celebration will happen Saturday in Rome.

Organized by Rome Main Streets Alliance, a full day of activities is planned to recognize the canal's 200th anniversary. Things kickoff at 9:00 a.m. Saturday at Bellamy Harbor Park in Rome, featuring LIVE music throughout and plenty of family friendly activities including face painting, the Utica Zoo Zoomobile and more.

A re-enactment of the original groundbreaking ceremony will happen at noon and the day wraps with fireworks at 9:00 p.m.

The replica schooner Lois McClure and the tugboat Roosevelt will be also available for tours.
