The two murderers who escaped a prison in northern New York nearly three weeks ago may be headed to Canada.

State Police Major Charles Guess said today that police believe that Richard Matt and David Sweat are heading north.  Guess said that belief is rooted in evidence that is being tested for DNA.

He also remarked that the weather hasn't cooperated in the search for the two killers who escaped three weeks ago.  Guess said the weather should make it tough for Sweat and Matt as well.

State Police say Franklin County continues to be the primary focus of the investigation.

They say communities north of the village of Malone, toward the Canadian border will see a strong law enforcement presence as the search continues.
