ATLANTA (AP) — If Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal wants to win re-election, he's got to weather more attacks over alleged ethics violations.

He overcame the same obstacle to win four years ago.

This time, it's Democratic state Sen. Jason Carter trying to frame Deal as a Republican politician who abuses his office for personal gain.

Deal and his aides say Carter is trying to distract voters from other issues.

Still, some Republicans worry that Democrats have enough to exploit, going back to a House ethics investigation when Deal was in Congress and continuing with complaints filed since his 2010 campaign for governor.

Deal is still having to answer questions about the state ethics commission amid ongoing charges that his allies there blocked an investigation into the most serious ethics complaints against him.
