The 4th Annual Miles for Missy 5k run/walk, and Kid’s Run will be held on Saturday, June 14th at the Herkimer Elementary School. For more information and registration, please visit the Miles for Missy Facebook page.

The run/walk grew from the grief of many who loved Melissa “Missy” Richvalsky Lasowski, who succumbed to her courageous battle with breast cancer in 2010 at the age of 30. Abbie Sutliff, the race director, was coached by Missy and wanted to channel her grief into an event that would honor the legacy of a hero who she and so many others adored.

In the event’s first three years, several hundred participants have honored the memory of the beloved coach and teacher by running and walking more than 3,740 miles. Additionally, more than $26,000 has been raised for the Mohawk Valley Chapter of the American Cancer Society and funds in Missy’s name at Herkimer and Central Valley Academy schools. The school funds have been used to provide children with basic necessities, carrying on a tradition Missy started.

The Kid’s Run begins at 8:00 am at the HES track, followed by the 5k run at 8:30 am and walk at 8:35 am. The run/walk will be followed by refreshments and a ceremony honoring Missy.
