Cancer survivors, caregivers, sponsors, teams and community members will come together for the American Cancer Society11th annual Relay For Life of Madison County on Saturday, May 31, 2014.

"Relay For Life is a fun, family focused event where the community comes together in the fight against cancer," said Jennifer Armlin, Relay For Life chairman. "One in two men and one in three women have a lifetime risk of being diagnosed with cancer. So many lives are touched by cancer. We Relay so that someday we will be able to eliminate this disease forever."

This year's American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Madison County hopes to raise over $100,000 for cancer research and programs that help cancer patients. The Relay committee sent over 400 invitations to cancer local survivors. Last year 122 survivors walked the track celebrating their courageous battle against cancer. “Our goal this year is to have even more survivors join us and walk our opening lap. Each of our survivors has such an inspirational story to tell. Watching them walk gives everyone at Relay a sense of hope,” said Jen Armlin.

“The community support for the event is what helps make Relay a success “said Jen Armlin. “ The power of the event is amazing. We walk the silent luminary lap with people we don’t know but have a connection that makes these strangers feel like family. We are all in this together because we have lost people we love to cancer. We have a common bond and a common hope. Our hope is that there will be a cure for cancer and no one will have to hear the words, “You have cancer” again.
