The Utica Public Library is

excited to announce a new math-focused program Bedtime Math’s Crazy 8s Club! “When I tutored math I got tired of hearing "Why do I need to learn this?’” says Melissa Lopez of the Library’s Children’s’ Room. “Nobody asks that with any other subject, but math is something we use every day. We need to turn children's attitudes toward math into something positive and encourage logical thinkers. While searching for program ideas, I found and fell in love with Bedtime Math.”

Bedtime Math takes the concept of reading stories to children at night and turns math into an activity children will enjoy. Laura Bilodeau Overdeck began Bedtime Math in 2012 with a website that hosts daily math puzzles with three levels of difficulty: Wee ones, Little kids, and Big kids. Overdeck has written several children's books and the website includes an app parents can download for daily puzzles. Bedtime Math is a nonprofit operating foundation, funded by charitable donations made by private donors and the proceeds from the Bedtime Math books. Their mission is to help kids love numbers so they feel confident with math in everyday life. Crazy 8s is a program developed by Bedtime Math to bring fun math oriented activities to libraries and after-school programs where kids can come together to learn and have fun.

Bedtime Math’s Crazy 8s Club will take place afterschool on Mondays in April and May, with a session at 4:30pm for ages 4-8 and a session at 5:30pm for ages 9-12.
