HAHNVILLE, La. (AP) — With enthusiasm and vigor that belie his 87 years, Louisiana's four-term former Gov. Edwin Edwards, is running for Congress in south Louisiana in what would be his second political resurrection.

His critics say the lifelong Democrat and ex-convict is on a fool's errand. While analysts say he's likely to grab a runoff spot on Nov. 4, he's a longshot to win in a Baton Rouge-area district that has long been voting heavily Republican. His age and his conviction on corruption charges in 2000 don't help.

But Edwards insists he can win and says he's encouraged by the warm reception he received when he emerged from federal prison in 2011.
