It seemed like something that should have always been allowed.

Whether you made a type-o or typed something you wish you hadn't typed, people have always wanted to edit their status posts and Facebook has never allowed it.  That has changed, finally.

Facebook is finally introducing a new editing function that will let users correct embarrassing typos or misinformation on their status updates.

While users have been able to edit comments they post to other people’s statuses for a while now, status updates were set in stone unless users chose to delete them entirely.
