CLEVELAND (AP) — The family of a 12-year-old boy fatally wounded by a Cleveland police officer says surveillance video of the shooting shows that if the officer had not acted so quickly the youngster would still be alive.

Video released by city officials Wednesday shows Tamir Rice being shot within 1½ to 2 seconds of a patrol car stopping near him at a park. He was carrying an airsoft gun that that shoots non-lethal plastic pellets. Tamir died Sunday, a day after the shooting.

Police officials have identified the officer who shot Tamir as 26-year-old Timothy Loehmann. His partner was identified as forty-six-year-old Frank Garmback. They're both on paid administrative leave until the Cuyahoga County prosecutor's office determines whether criminal charges are warranted.
