A fatal weekend accident in the Saratoga County town of Malta is under investigation.

It took place on I-87 near Exit 11 at approximately 3:40am on Sunday, June 8, 2014.

The only car involved, travelling southbound, veered sharply to the right off the road for a reason not yet determined.  The driver of the car, 22-year old Alexandra F. ("Lexi") Parry of Waterford, New York, is believed to have lost control of the car before it hit a guardrail and became airborne.  Troopers say the car overturned several times before coming to a stop.

Parry was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.  Her passenger, 23-year old Jacob M. Lapan of Clifton Park, was not ejected and suffered a concussion and cuts to the head.  His condition, stable immediately after the accident, is not known at this time.

State Police say that Parry and Lapan were not wearing seatbelts.  Alcohol is believed to have played a role in the crash.

Services for Parry, a SUNY Oswego student and alumnus of Shenendehowa High School, have not yet been formally announced.

I-87 Southbound was closed for several hours on Sunday as accident investigators attempted to reconstruct the scene.

The New York State Police were assisted by the Malta Ridge Fire Department, Malta EMS, and the New York State Department of Transportation.

Anyone with information that may be helpful to investigators is asked to call State Police at: (518 ) 783.3284.
