SHELBY, N.Y. (AP) — One person has died and another is in the hospital after a one-car accident in Orleans County.

The county sheriff's office says 43-year-old David Russo of the Genesee County town of Stafford lost control of his car while he was driving south on State Route 63 in the town of Shelby around 11:30 Thursday morning, December 26, 2013. The car went off the road, flipped over and landed upside-down in flooded swampland.

The sheriff's office says Russo and 40-year-old Lisa Stanley of the Genesee County town of LeRoy were extricated from the car and taken to Medina Memorial Hospital. Russo was pronounced dead. Stanley was later transferred to a Rochester hospital.

Undersheriff Steven Smith said wintry weather and slippery road conditions contributed to the accident.
