The identity of the person killed in a one- car motor vehicle accident in the Town of Union Wednesday evening has been released by the Broome County Sheriff's Office.  34 year-old Jason R. Dempsey of Hooper Road in Endwell , the operator of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The crash was reported at 6:28.

According the the Sheriff's Department report the vehicle that Dempsey was driving was traveling north on Nanticoke Drive from Route 26 when it crossed over the center line and struck the guide rail on the west shoulder of the road.  The vehicle became airborne and struck a telephone pole, sheering it in half before coming to rest in the roadway on the passenger side of the vehicle.

According to police Dempsey was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle causing traumatic injuries. NYSEG crews remained on the scene to conduct repairs to the pole and restore power to the grid.  The Sheriff's Office received assistance from the West Corners Fire Department, Union Ambulance, NYSEG and the Town of Union Highway Department.
