TONAWANDA, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a 52-year-old woman has died and a 55-year-old man is hospitalized after they were hit by a car while walking across a Buffalo-area street.

Police say Sandra Garner and Kevin Nowak, both of Buffalo, were crossing Kenmore Avenue in the town of Tonawanda when they were hit by a car shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday.

Officials say the 82-year-old man driving the car was making a left turn out of a supermarket parking lot when he hit the pedestrians.

Garner died about five hours after the accident at Erie County Medical Center, where Nowak is being treated.

Police say no charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation.
