Fatal Snowmobile Accident in Forestport

Forestport, NY (WIBX) – A Downstate man is dead following a snowmobile accident in Forestport. According to the State Police, 23-year old Richard Petty was out riding with several other snowmobilers when he failed to negotiate a curve on River Road.
Police believe he hit a snow embankment and was ejected from his sled, sustaining a massive head injury after hitting a tree. He was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center where he later died. Authorities are blaming excessive speed for the accident.
