New York Governor Andrew Cuomo wants the federal government to assist those affected by flash flooding in July in New York, including in Broome County.

The Governor has requested a Major Disaster Declaration for 13 counties with $30 million to help repair infrastructure, pay for the removal of debris and fix structural damage.

In Broome County, over 6 dozen residents were evacuated from their homes in Vestal, Binghamton and Kirkwood.  Especially hard-hit were residents in Vestal, where Choconut Creek spilled over its banks again, flooding homes and sending over a dozen residents into temporary housing in the early morning.

Tioga and Cortland Counties are also included in the Governor’s request.
