A federal judge has struck down a local law prohibiting local laborers from gathering on public sidewalks in an effort to find work.

U.S. District Court Judge Denis Hurley rules that an ordinance in Long Island's Oyster Bay is unconstitutional.

In his ruling Judge Hurley said that the law, which proponents says was meant to address safety issues, was a violation of the First Amendment, which allows citizens the right to gather.

Town officials have not yet decided whether they will appeal the ruling.
