Utica, NY (WIBX) - Oneida and Herkimer County residents affected by Tropical Storm Lee and Hurricane Irene have only 30 days left to register for disaster assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Peter Lembessis is a FEMA spokesperson. He said, "Registration deadline is December 15, for homeowners and renters that had damages because of Lee here in Oneida, and in Herkimer due to Hurricane Irene or Tropical Storm Lee."

Oneida County was declared a Disaster Area for Tropical Storm Lee and Herkimer County was declared a Disaster Area for Tropical Storm Lee and Hurricane Irene. To register for recovery assistance, contact the FEMA hotline at 800-621-FEMA (3362), or on-line at www.DisasterAssistance.gov. Also, separate registration is required for those needing disaster relief from Tropical Storm Lee and Hurricane Irene.

According to Lembessis, in Oneida County, 443 people have registered for disaster relief, and over $698,000 has been approved by the federal government. In Herkimer County, 270 people have registered for disaster aid, and over $386,000 has been approved for residents who suffered damages from Tropical Storm Lee. For Hurricane Irene, so far over 84 people have registered and over $40,000 has been approved by the feds.
