Utica, NY (WIBX) - The Food and Drug Administration will require tobacco companies to attach horrifying pictures to cigarette packs beginning in September of 2012.

According to Rasmussen national telephone surveys, only 18% of all Americans think the warning labels will reduce the number of smokers.

While surveys show 92% of smokers already know the dangers of the habit, 61% believe the new warning labels will not be effective.

Alternatively, almost half (49%) of all Americans believe that raising the price of cigarettes will be more effective in decreasing the number of smokers.

Rasmussen Reports conducted this survey of 1,000 adults nationwide on June 21st and 22nd.
