Fibonacci Conference Students Visit Masonic Medical Lab

Students participating in this year's Fibonacci Youth Conference in Rome visited the Masonic Medical Research Lab to get some exposure to science and medicine in a real world setting.

Dr. Brian Panama is Director of Education at the MMRL says this opportunity gives students who are already interested in STEAM(Science, Technology, Education, Arts and Math) some exposure to what working in those area look like.

"I think at this point students, as far as their careers go they're going to have to start making decisions about where they want to go, which direction they want to go with their career, so it's good to expose them to these things now," Dr. Panama said.

Jacob Ploivka of Rome is a Computer Engineering major at SUNY Poly who says being a part of the conference has already excited him for the future in his field:

"One of the main things I want to do is nano medicine, but honestly looking around at this, I'm looking at different things that I might be able to implement those nano medicines in," Polivka said.

The stop at the MMRL is part of the week-long conference designed to stimulate students' interest in STEAM.
