Herkimer College hosted the "Fight for Our Valley Schools" rally.

Students, Parents, teachers and adminstrators from the 10 Valley Schools were on hand to learn about Gap Elimination adjustment and what can be done to bring more state funding and avoid further drastic cuts.

The Valley Schools are made up of Central Valley (Ilion & Mohawk), Dolgeville, Frankfort-Schuyler, Herkimer, Little Falls, Mount Markham, Owen D. Young, Poland, Richfield Springs and West Canada Valley.

According to Dr. Rick Timbs, the 10 Valley Schools combined have lost more than $42 million in state funding since the GEA was initiated. Everyone who attended the rally was given an advocacy tool kit that included a form letter addressed to Governor Cuomo asking him to do away with the gap Elimination Adjustment.

Dolgeville Superintendent Christine Reynolds said these cuts hurt the already strapped school districts because Dolgeville only had one foreign language to start with, and now they've had to eliminate all business courses.
