Utica fire crews were busy fighting a fire at the Pacemaker Steel building on Broad and Niagra streets Friday morning.

There was also a strong odor of gas evident in the immediate area around the scene.

Joining the Keeler in the Morning Show on Friday, Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri's said the fired involved a broken gas line and that the broken line was fueling the blaze.

Later Friday morning, Palmieri posted this update to his Facebook page:

As a result of the fire that took place this morning at Pacemaker Steel at 1700 Broad Street, east Utica residents may experience a drop in their gas pressure.

The City asks all travelers to avoid this area as Fire crews continue to work on the scene.
