Fire Destroys Horse Barn Next to Route 17 in Nichols

Officials are reporting no injuries to humans or animals following a spectacular fire at a large horse barn next to Route 17 in Nichols.

Officials say at around 2 p.m. April 3 the blaze was reported on East River Road with the flames visible for miles away.

The horses on the property were not in the barn.

The embers from the fire also ignited a small brush fire on an island in the Susquehanna River.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters from Nichols, Tioga Center, Southside Owego, Owego,  Windham, Pennsylvania and Athens, Pennsylvania were called to the scene.
