Fire Rips Through Downtown Binghamton Building

An early morning fire ripped through a downtown Binghamton business.

The multi-alaram fire at the building housing Ellis Brothers Fine Home Furnishings was reported at about 7:30

Thick smoke poured from the upper floors of the four-story brick building.

Several neighboring buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

Binghamton Mayor Richard David said it appeared firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the Ellis Brothers building.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
