MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (AP) — Firefighters are battling a deadly fire at a house in Westchester County.

The blaze broke out around 3:30am on October 29, 2013 at 11 South Bond Street in Mount Vernon. The exact number of victims was not immediately known.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames when they arrived at the scene.

The Journal News reports that a resident attempted to drag his brother out of the basement. It says one of the brothers succumbed to the fire. The other brother was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. His condition was not immediately known.

No other information was immediately available.
