The first of Five forums scheduled in Utica to discuss the proposed Extending Learning Time Grant For Utica Schools was held at Donovan Middle School Wednesday night.

Some parents who attended the meeting had several concerns about extending the school day an extra 90 minutes including bus schedules and if the longer day would cut into extracurricular activities.

Jeff Parker says he wants to know if certain elementary schools participate and other don't, what happens to the students who didn't get the extra time throughout grade school.

Parker and his wife said at first their daughter was against the idea but they say if the extra two hours are used for one-on-one time with teachers she would be fine with the change.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday evening September 25, at Hughes Elementary School.
