BOSTON (AP) — The National Weather Service has issued some flake news: Parts of southern New England could see up to 10 inches of snow.

Southeastern Massachusetts, most of Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut are under winter storm warnings for much of Friday.

The Weather Service is forecasting 6 to 10 inches of snow on Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket; 4 to 8 inches in Rhode Island; and 4 to 7 inches in Connecticut's New London County. Other parts of the region could get up to 5 inches of snow.

School delays and cancellations are expected. The Weather Service says snow will start falling in western areas Thursday night and become heavy during the morning and into mid-day Friday, making many roads impassable.

Forecasters expect sub-zero wind chills during the weekend.
