PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Float decorators and New Year's Day revelers are preparing for one of the chilliest Rose Parades on record.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for temperatures to hover around freezing in the early Thursday morning hours as dozens of floats filled with roses and carnations line up to march through the streets of Pasadena.

This year's floats will highlight historic figures, celebrities and popular culture around the theme "Inspiring Stories."

The children of World War II hero and former Olympian Louis Zamperini will grand marshal the parade in their father's memory. Zamperini is the subject of a book and the movie "Unbroken," directed by Angelina Jolie.

The frigid temps did not stop dozens of people from claiming spots along the parade route early Wednesday.
