Forestport, NY (WIBX) - An angler from Forestport is in the state record books for catching the largest brook trout.

The Department of Environmental Conservation says Dan Germain reeled in the record-breaking fish last month while fishing on South Lake in Herkimer County.

The trout weighed in at 5 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 22 inches long.

It surpassed the previous state record set in 2009 by three-and-a-half ounces.

Germain submitted details of his winning fish as part of the DEC's Angler Achievement Awards Program.
