Former Dance Teacher Sentenced for Sex Abuse

A former Tioga County dance instructor could spend the rest of her life in prison for inappropriate contact with students.

40 year old Julie Werkheiser, who owned Studio J Dance on  Broad Street in Waverly was sentenced on February 5, 2016 to eleven years to life in prison for sexually abusing two children in 2006 and 2007.

Werkheiser’s partner, Samantha Stone is awaiting a new trial on accusations of abusing a child under the age of 13 in Binghamton.

Her first conviction on a charge of predatory sexual assault against a child was set aside and a new trial ordered in November following a challenge of contested testimony from the alleged victim’s stepmother and grandmother.
