BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A former corrections officer at the Attica Correctional Facility in western New York has pleaded guilty to attempted murder.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office says 38 year-old Peter Vegas entered his plea in connection to his ex-girlfriend's assault in May 2017.

Prosecutors say Vegas drove to the woman's home in Buffalo and forced his way inside after she shut the door.

Authorities say he stabbed the woman multiple times in the neck, and he fled in his car after she ran outside for help.

Vegas pleaded guilty to additional charges of endangering the welfare of a child and assault.

He faces a maximum of 25 years in prison during his sentencing scheduled for Dec. 3.

Vegas is being held without bail.
