A female Fort Drum soldier is dead following a one-car crash in the Town of Ava.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, 23-Year-Old Miles Wilson-King was operating a 2016 Toyota Corolla northbound on Route 26 in Ava. He and a female passenger were returning to Fort Drum where they were stationed.

The Sheriff's Office says, the vehicle crossed the southbound lane and exited the roadway and struck a tree near a residence. The female passenger was transported to Rome Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her name is not being released until her family can be notified.

Wilson-King, the driver, was evaluated at the scene and refused treatment. As a result of the investigation it was determined that both passengers were wearing their seat belts and several air bags were deployed. The investigation is ongoing, but it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
