Fort Plain Man Charged With Welfare Fraud

An investigation by the Herkimer County Sheriff's Department Welfare Fraud Unit has led to the arrest of a Fort Plain man.

47-year old Timothy Smith is charged with welfare fraud and grand larceny, both felonies.

He's accused of receiving nearly $4,000 in food stamp benefits from May 2013 to April 2014 after he allegedly failed to report his income to the Herkimer County Department of Social Services.
