Utica, NY (WIBX) - The Workforce Investment Board is launching a series of free renewable energy seminars in Oneida, Herkimer and Madison counties.

The first is being offered at the Johnson Park Center at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The "Introduction to Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency" is divided into three main sections:

  • an explanation for each of the renewable energy categories describing the benefits as well as obstacles that need to be overcome to achieve wider implementation whether for residential or commercial applications
  • an overall approach to energy conservation on a personal level, with a list of actionable ideas with description, hand-ons exercises, and tools to use to assess the cost effectiveness of the opportunities
  • a description of basic and specific skills needed for jobs in each renewableenergy area, followed by a description of programs available to provide training from a series of one day short seminars through a complete 2 or 4 year degree program

The sessions are being also being offered:

1/14/11 - One-Stop Herkimer (1-4 p.m.)

1/25/11 - Johnson Park Center, Utica (6:30 - 10 p.m.)

2/9/11 - MVCC Rome Campus (6 - 9 p.m.)

2/28/11 - BOCES Verona (6 -9 p.m.)

3/14/11 - BOCES New Hartford (6 - 9 p.m.)
