It's been a good long while since we've heard anything from the front of 'Game of Thrones' season 5, somewhat understandable given the long road to its spring premiere, but no less taxing given its status as the most off-book season yet. To wit, new production evidence suggests Jaime Lannister at least will take a major detour from the canon for an all-new story in season 5.

You're warned of some potentially major 'Game of Thrones' season 5 spoilers from this point on, though where readers might have expected Jaime to revisit Riverrun in the wake of his father Tywin's death, a new set report from "Los Siete Reinos" (via WatchersOnTheWall) suggests otherwise. According to reports, at least one major scene of the season to come will see Jaime (and Bronn, yay!) traveling to Dorne to visit the oft-forgotten Princess Myrcella, sparking a conflict that sees Jaime dueling with the Sand Snakes.

And while it remains to be seen if Jaime's visit to Dorne takes precedence over his path in the books, the information proves somewhat credible in light of reports that season 5 addition Keisha Castle-Hughes' Obara Sand would share a fight scene with a character she'd never met in the books. Moreover, given all we know Cersei to undergo back in Kings' Landing this season, it would make a degree of sense for Jaime to be further out of reach than the books would suggest, with a more familiar character than Ser Ilyn Payne as his second (Bronn's swordfighting lessons last season also replaced Payne's from the book).

While we wait for ‘Game of Thrones’ season 5, we know of both returning, absent, and a multitude of other new characters cast, including those that confirm we’ll be visiting the oft-mentioned kingdom of Dorne, for which Spain will double. We’ll also meet fewer new characters in season 5 than in prior years, as the next cycle will prove to be something of a midpoint for the series’ run. As expected, the story will draw heavily from George R.R. Martin‘s fourth and fifth novels, ‘A Feast for Crows’ and ‘A Dance with Dragons,' while HBO has also provided a list of directors.

'Game of Thrones' season 5 could prove the most intriguing yet, for all its rumored book diversions, but what do you think? Would you like to see Jaime headed off to Dorne, rather than keep to the path established by George R.R. Martin? What would you like to see 'Game of Thrones' season 5 do differently when it arrives next year?
