Utica, NY (WIBX) - Gas prices in the Utica Rome market are down 2-cents this week to an average of $3.62 a gallon, according to Ed Welsh of AAA.

But he says we should be paying a lot less.

"About 20-percent of the price of gas right now is due to the weak dollar. We should be under the three dollar mark right now, to around the $2.70-2.80 range, if the dollar was as strong as it was just a year or two ago," Welsh said.

However, the financial turmoil in Europe is stabilizing the value of the dollar and leading to the slight price declines we're seeing, he said, despite the price per barrel rising to over $100 earlier this week.

Rochester is paying the lowest average price in upstate New York at $3.55 a gallon.
