This year's Fourth of July will mark the highest travel volume on record according to Triple A's Ed Welsh.

Close to 43 million people will hit the road this weekend between Thursday, June 30 and Monday, July 4 - a 1.3% increase over last year.

Welsh says the average gas prices for the holiday weekend in the Mohawk Valley are at $2.34 a gallon, down more than $.54 from this time last year.

"We're in the lower cost tier of gasoline for this holiday, and that's a rare occasion here in the Mohawk Valley where our prices are generally higher," Welsh said.

Right now local gas prices are cheaper than Binghamton, Buffalo and Rochester, and only a little higher than Albany and Syracuse.
